Facebook building appsFor Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, global customer engagement has already occurred, but he wants more.

“More than 1.4 billion people use the Facebook website and app every month and a lot more people we think would benefit from using that and we’re working on trying to make that a better experience and trying to grow that and grow the business around that and that’s a really big focus,” Zuckerberg said during the company’s annual stockholder meeting on June 11, according to Seeking Alpha. “Over the next three to five years, one of the big parts of our story is going to be that Facebook now is no longer just a single app in a way that people communicate, but now we’ve developed a strategy of trying to build multiple world class apps and services for all the different ways that people want to communicate.”

Facebook acquired WhatsApp “where now 800 million people use that to send messages, every month across the world and we’ve built this product messenger that more than 700 million people are using to communicate,” Zuckerberg explained. “We have a group product that more than 700 million people monthly are using to communicate in small groups and share on topics about their interest.”

What’s more, Zuckerberg noted that Facebook has communities like Instagram that more than 300 million people are using to share things.Facebook builds apps

“So over the next three or five years a big part of what we do is going to be continuing to grow those communities, while also starting to evolve those products to become important drivers of revenue in our overall business as well,” he said. “That’ll be an important and fun part of what we get to do over the next five years. Over 10 years, we look to figure out what are the big changes in the world that we need to help drive in order to really deliver on this mission to make the world more open and connected. So we talk about things like internet.org, which is this effort to help spread Internet access around the world because in order for people to be able to communicate, I mean stay in touch with people and enjoy all the economic benefits that the Internet brings they're going to have to be on the Internet and that’s not the case today.”

A little more than 33% of the world’s population has Internet access, he added.

“So we’re working on a long-term project to be able to drive more Internet access,” Zuckerberg explained. “We’re proud that today I think it's more than nine million people already have Internet access who didn't before because of our efforts through internet.org. So it’s still early on in terms of what we’re doing there, but that’s going to be an increasingly important thing that we’re doing to drive this mission of helping everyone around the world be able to stay connected.”
