Sleep Number Announces New Innovations for Beds

Sleep Number announced new product innovations for its 360 smart beds and Sleep IQ. Earlier in 2020, Sleep Number launched its Scientific Advisory Board, which is an interdisciplinary group of physicians, clinicians and researchers with expertise in sleep science and health. Chaired by Dr. Eve Van Cauter, an expert on the health impact of sleep and circadian rhythms and professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago, this Advisory Board helps Sleep Number analyze data on new sleep health solutions.

“Society is more concerned than ever about health and wellness, and there is an increased understanding that sleep is vital for healthy living,” says Shelly Ibach, president and CEO of Sleep Number. “Quality sleep actually boosts the immune system, and our 360 smart beds provide an effortless solution to achieve proven-quality sleep.”

The advisory board has already shown some new sleep innovations, which include:

  • SleepIQ can now track an individual’s nighttime Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which is a measure of the variation of time between each heartbeat. By monitoring HRV, SleepIQ supplies data that will detect energy levels and the body’s ability to recover from stress. This innovation launched just a little bit ago, on August 9.

  • Sleep Circadian Insights launched in April of this year, and it automatically tracks sleep and wake times for each sleeper in the SleepIQ platform application. Artificial intelligence is used to learn a sleeper’s patterns and give guidance to help perfect sleep as well as wake times.

  • Monthly Sleep Wellness Reports give an overview of insights personalized to the person, highlighting sleep health, circadian stability as well as respiratory and cardiovascular health through HRV. These reports also help sleepers understand their sleep and see their sleep health and how it has changed over time.

“As we hold ourselves accountable to moving society forward by delivering life-changing value, we are creating a connected health experience for our customers through their individualized SleepIQ data,” continues Ibach. “Individuals can now easily understand the link between their quality sleep and a healthier life. Our purpose-driven team, robust data and renowned sleep scientists are making significant advancements to address sleep challenges, which affect the health of millions.”
