Chick-fil-A Leads Restaurant Satisfaction for 9th Straight Year, with Other Restaurants Close Behind
According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Restaurant Study 2022-2023, customer satisfaction with full-service restaurants has increased by 1% to a score of 81, bringing the industry back to the top spot in the Index alongside athletic shoes and soft drinks. Fast food industry satisfaction has also climbed 3% to 78.
Outback Steakhouse emerged as the leader among full-service restaurants, with a score of 83, followed by LongHorn Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, and Cracker Barrel. However, rising beef prices may pose challenges for these steakhouses. Chick-fil-A maintained its position as the top fast-food chain for the ninth consecutive year with a score of 85, but Jimmy John's is closing in with a score of 84. Despite increased restaurant prices, perceived value has improved, and quality gains have been noted.
“This year we’re seeing customer satisfaction returning to pre-pandemic levels for full-service dining, while fast food outlets have rebounded to within a point of their 2019 score,” says Forrest Morgeson, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Michigan State University and Director of Research Emeritus at the ACSI. “This good news is tempered, though, by increasing inflationary pressures, which are already slowing traffic. Sooner rather than later, the industry is going to feel the pinch, and price competition and value will matter.”
