Sonic Drive-In Offers Teachers Rewards Before School Year

With kids heading back to school over the next few weeks, SONIC® Drive-In is showing its appreciation for teachers with a week-long event of free menu items. From August 21 through August 25, a daily offer will be sent to qualified faculty or staff at a K-12 school or degree-granting university enrolled in the SONIC Teachers’ Circle program. Qualified educators can sign up or update their profiles through the SONIC App.

Teachers’ Circle Week of Rewards:

  • Monday, August 21 – Free Large Drink or Slush

  • Tuesday, August 22 – Free Breakfast Entrée

  • Wednesday, August 23 – Free Small Cold Brew

  • Thursday, August 24 – Free Medium Tots or Fries

  • Friday, August 25 – Free SONIC Cheeseburger

The SONIC Drive-In team wanted to find a way to celebrate educators while making their next trip to SONIC Drive-In a rewarding experience.

“Educators give their all each day as they shape and inspire the minds of our kids. Providing teachers and faculty with a week of special SONIC rewards is our small way of saying thanks as they start a new school year,” said Kim Lewis, Vice President of Brand Experience for SONIC.

SONIC Drive-In also supports public schools and educators throughout the year by donating a portion of proceeds from every drink, slush, and shake purchase to the SONIC Foundation, which is used to support local public education. Since 2009, the SONIC Limeades for Learning initiative has raised more than $27 million for funding local classrooms, becoming one of the largest programs in the U.S. to support public education.

Checkers and Rally’s Roll Out Hi Auto’s First-Ever Spanish Language Drive-Thru Voice AI Ordering

Checkers and Rally's Drive-in Restaurants have announced that it has implemented Hi Auto’s Spanish drive-thru voice AI ordering at several locations around the United States. In order to reach more fast-food lovers and ease the ordering process for Spanish-speaking customers, this technology may lead to future improvements of drive-thru experiences throughout the nation.

There are more than 50 million Spanish and bilingual speakers in the United States and Canada, making this technology a key differentiator for the brand. This AI Ordering technology is now operational at more than 350 of the restaurant group’s locations.

“Seventy percent of Miami Dade’s population are of Hispanic descent, so I congratulate the leadership of Checkers, Rally’s and Hi Auto on being pioneers and leading the way for other companies to follow,” said Liliam M. Lopez, President and CEO of the non-profit South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “It gives me such satisfaction to see that Checkers, Rally’s and Hi Auto are implementing a policy that their drive thru employees speak Spanish. Thank you to their leadership team, and we look forward to working with them.”

Leveraging Hi Auto’s AI and automation technologies and real-time human supervision capabilities, the new bilingual feature enables drive-thru restaurants to accurately take spoken orders and inquiries for Spanish speaking customers in real-time, further enhancing the customer experience. In fact, the Hi Auto system automatically detects the language spoken by the customer and immediately responds in that language to carry out the ordering process.
