Airbnb Asks Hosts to Provide 100,000 Free Rentals to First Responders
As many as 100,000 medical workers, first responders and relief workers worldwide who are working to battle the COVID-19 outbreak could have free places to stay from Airbnb and its hosts. “We’ve heard from countless hosts around the world who want to provide a comforting home to heroic first responders," said Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia in an announcement on the Airbnb website Thursday. "We are connecting our nonprofit partners, government agencies, and others with our incredible host community to work together in these extraordinary times.” Airbnb hosts can opt to make their homes open for free through Airbnb’s Open Homes platform, or Airbnb will waive fees for stays with hosts who cannot make homes available for free.
Fanatics Shifts Production from MLB Jerseys to Masks and Gowns to Fight Coronavirus
Instead of celebrating the opening of baseball season, MLB and Fanatics are teaming up for a different cause – the fight against COVID-19. Fanatics has announced it is halting production efforts of baseball jerseys to begin making safety masks and gowns for healthcare workers on the front line.
“The COVID-19 crisis has compelled our country to be more collaborative, innovative, and strategic than ever before. As the demand for masks and gowns have surged, we’re fortunate to have teamed up with Major League Baseball to find a unique way to support our frontline workers in this fight to stem the virus, who are in dire need of essential resources,” says Michael Rubin, executive chairman at Fanatics.
Chipotle Announces The 2020 Chipotle Challenger Series with New Online Competition for Esports Fans
The Chipotle Challenger Series first launched last year at DreamHack in Dallas, TX, and will now be virtual in 2020 with an online tournament that gives everyone across the United States the opportunity to join the competition and prove their skills in some of the world's most popular games. As a part of the competition, Chipotle will connect fans across the country with their favorite gaming and celebrity personalities for a chance to win $50,000 and free Chipotle for a year. Spain’s La Liga Soccer Division Goes Virtual Amid Coronavirus
To keep soccer fans engaged with social distancing measures in place, Spain’s top soccer league is churning out digital content to keep fans involved, including a videogame tournament and a virtual festival. The virtual festival, organized by La Liga, will also include performances by some of Spain’s top artists as well as soccer stars, taking place from their homes. The event will be broadcast on media, including La Liga’s TV channel.
Texas Roadhouse CEO To Donate Salary and Bonus to Front-Line Employees
W. Kent Taylor, CEO of Texas Roadhouse, the steak restaurant chain, has decided to forgo his base salary and bonus from the pay period starting March 18 through January 7, 2021 and redirect that money to pay front-line workers. While restaurants have been allowed to continue takeout and delivery services, table service has been shut down in many states, severely limits restaurants’ revenue.
