Membership Milestone Met, Marathon Celebrates with Sweepstakes 

Marathon ARCO Rewards hit 1M members in September 2023. The Marathon retail brand’s newly launched loyalty program is celebrating the milestone with its Win Big Sweepstakes. From October 9, 2023, through January 15, 2024, all new and existing program members can enter for a chance to win.  

One grand prize winner will take home a 2024 Ford Expedition Limited MAX and $1,000 in gas. The first runner-up prize winner will be awarded gas for a year, and 500 second-prize winners will receive $50 rewards.  

“Since launching Marathon ARCO Rewards earlier this year, we’ve seen impressive participation and so much excitement surrounding the program from both our long-time and new members,” says Steve Solomon, Marathon’s Director of Brand Strategy and Innovation. “We’re eager to continue driving program growth, activity, and station visits through this ‘Win Big’ sweepstakes.”  

To enter the sweepstakes for a chance to win, loyalty program members can visit participating locations, use the mobile app, or mail a postcard. Limits are placed on the number of daily entries.

Planet Fitness Combats Bullying with Fundraising To Support the Boys & Girls Clubs of America 

In October, Planet Fitness is participating in National Bullying Prevention Month with its annual fundraiser to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Fitness club members can make their donations to support youth-focused programming and academic scholarships at locations in the U.S. (excluding Hawaii) and Puerto Rico, or by visiting PFGives.com. The fundraiser is part of Planet Fitness’ philanthropic campaign, the Judgement Free Generation®, and 100% of the funds go to BGCA. Proceeds from the sale of Planet Fitness’ ‘Be Kind’ t-shirt also benefit BGCA, and shirts can be purchased at Shop.PlanetFitness.com year-round.

Driving for Speed, Intouch Insight’s 2023 Annual Drive-Thru Study 

Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) brands experienced improved “speed of service” from 2022 to 2023; however, this was due to a reduction of cars going through the drive-thru. A recent Intouch Insight survey determined that Taco Bell displayed the fastest total average time amongst major QSR brands, but Chick-fil-a, even with its higher total average, was determined to be the fastest when the number of cars going through the drive-thru was taken into account.  

There is still room to improve speed, and this could be supported by new drive-thru units. Intouch noted that Taco Bell’s Defy unit in Minnesota displayed faster service times than system averages. The same was true for a McDonald’s Texas test unit.  

Findings from these tests might foster the development of other drive-thru technologies, such as Taco Bell’s Go Mobile design, Chick-fil-A’s elevated drive-thru, or Del Taco’s off-premise-only design. Even small advances in drive-thru speed can mean extra sales revenue for QSRs. For that to happen, order accuracy must be maintained and improved.
