Kmart wants customers to get in the Christmas spirit early through its limited offer No Money Down Layaway program, which is available to its Shop Your Way loyalty program members and expires on Sept. 20.
Jai Holtz, vice president and general manager financial services, Sears Holdings told Loyalty360 that the program was based on member feedback.
“We wanted to ensure our members and customers can be smart about their holiday shopping–plan ahead, budget, and shop early so they can spread payments out over time,” Holtz said. “The Kmart No Money Down Layaway offer started Aug. 31 and ends Sept. 20. Kmart layaway is offered year round.”
According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 40% of Americans begin holiday shopping before Halloween. Kmart layaway makes it easy to plan purchases, enabling members and customers to shop early with a flexible, convenient payment option.
“Kmart layaway is a great way for our members to budget their finances throughout the holidays by kicking off no money down layaway as early as possible so they can feel confident about checking everything off their lists,” Holtz explained. “We’ve simplified the layaway experience with no money down by eliminating the $10 or 10% down payment previously required. No matter how much the sum of the items you put on layaway, you pay no money down, versus paying 10% (or $20) on a $200 layaway contract, for example."
Shoppers can put aside products like popular toys, apparel and jewelry, Holtz said.
“Plus, we have special weekly layaway offers for Shop Your Way members like $10 off $50 in Apparel, Footwear and Jewelry, and 5% off Toys, Sporting Goods, and Home,” he added.
