IHG Hotels & Resorts Launches the IHG Vacay SOS Program for NYC Travelers Left Without a Place To Stay

On September 5, 2023, New York City began to apply restrictions placed on short-term and vacation rentals, such as those offered under Airbnb or VRBO, as outlined in Local Law 18 passed in January 2022. The newly-enforced law could leave thousands of travelers without a place to stay.

In response, IHG Hotels & Resorts* has launched the IHG Vacay SOS Program to help travelers who show proof of cancellation by giving them 10,000 IHG One Rewards Points to welcome them back into the hotel “suite life.” A spokesperson for the brand sees this program as an opportunity to reintroduce travelers to the benefits of the hotel experience.

To claim the offer and “rescue” an upcoming trip, travelers must:

  • Sign up for the IHG One Rewards program on IHG’s website if they are not already members

  • Email proof that their New York City short-term accommodation was canceled by the host/short-term rental company to: BeAGuestAgain@ihg.com

  • The IHG Vacay SOS Program is applicable for cancellations occurring through December 31, 2023, and only for the first 100 people who email proof of cancellation

  • Those who are eligible** will receive 10,000 points redeemable towards a stay at an IHG Hotels & Resorts property

In a crowded marketplace, brands prioritizing what customers need and value are those who will establish and cultivate true brand loyalty. Offering an improved customer experience — especially in challenging times — helps create meaningful emotional loyalty.

“At our core, we’re about taking care of people, and hearing this news sparked an idea,” said Connor Smith, VP of Masterbrand Strategy for IHG Hotels & Resorts. “This program invites travelers to be a guest again. They can come as they are and leave the rest to us.”
