Ahold Delhaize USA Donates $10 million for Coronavirus Relief

Ahold Delhaize USA, to help with the Coronavirus pandemic, announced a $10 million relief package. This relief package will be given to multiple organizations to better help the community. The organizations are as follows:
 

  • $2 million is for employee funds and their families in this time of need – Lion’s Pride, Helping Hands and Take Care.
  • $3.5 million in funding to help feed and care for communities on the East Coast through local efforts with Stop & Shop and Food Lion offering another $1 million each $500,000 by Giant Food, The GIANT Company and Hannaford respectively.
  • $3 million that has already been given through local brands with efforts like:
    • Stop & Shop – $1 million which was given to 13 food bank partners alongside other local food donations.
    • Food Lion – $600,000, which includes $500,000 going to the donation of 5 million meals to food bank partners to feed students, seniors and others in need, as well as $100,000 to Feeding America and other food donations.
    • Giant Food – $550,000 to Feeding America food banks as well as donations of food products and customer giveback opportunities to food banks.
    • The GIANT Company – $500,000 to help local hunger relief organizations, such as Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Philabundance among others, and COVID-19 testing and mitigations efforts at five area hospitals.
    • Hannaford – $250,000 to regional food banks to help efforts in critical areas in five states, and a cash register community donation drive.
  • $1.5 million for funding to help medical research to find a cure for the Coronavirus. Of that, $500,000 has been donated to the efforts being conducted at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Johns Hopkins University and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Alongside these donations, the company is giving other economic support with 20,000 employment opportunities. The brand has also implemented social distancing efforts like associate and customer education, signage and plexi-shield protective barriers. In addition, the company dedicated shopping hours for seniors and other vulnerable customers.
 
Holt added in the same press release, “Through our local brand efforts, we play a critical role in the food supply chain and are operating in regions greatly impacted by this crisis. Our COVID-19 relief package ensures we’re financially committing to critical needs, along with implementing continued social distancing measures and creating new employment opportunities when it is needed most.”
