Best Western Hotels & Resorts Helps Travelers Hit the Road This Summer with New Rewards Promotions
 
Best Western has announced a new campaign titled, Hit the Road with Best Western. This campaign has three new rewards promotions, which includes:

  • For every individual $100 Best Western gift card purchased, customers will receive a bonus $20 gift card

  • From June 15 to August 31, 2020, any member staying at a Best Western and visiting by car will receive a $25 Best Western Travel Card.

  • Best Western members who stay one eligible night between June 22 and September 7, 2020, at any Best Western location in the United States or Canada will receive a $25 Best Western gift card.

Hy-Vee to Donate $1 Million and One Million Volunteer Hours to Organizations That Support Racial Unity and Equality
 
Hy-Vee has announced it will be donating $1 million as well as one million volunteer hours to organizations that support racial unity and equality. This donation will be funded through the brand’s philanthropic One Step program.
 
“There are times when actions speak volumes and when actions can help to create real, long-lasting change -- and for us, this is one of those times,” said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman, CEO and president, in the Hy-Vee press release. “Hy-Vee was founded on a guiding set of principles we call our 15 fundamentals. Four of those fundamentals – fairness, caring, respect, and dignity – deeply pertain to the current situation our country is facing today. All those who call Hy-Vee home – whether it be an employee, customer, or supplier – should and will feel welcomed, included, and appreciated. Anything less is unacceptable.”

As Diners Flock to Delivery Apps, Restaurants Fear for Their Future
 
As many customers have started to go to delivery apps due to the pandemic and people staying at home, restaurants have started to notice how much these delivery apps are getting from each order.
 
“You have no choice but to sign up, but there is no negotiating,” Matt Majesky, owner of Pierogi Mountain, who has applied for unemployment, said of the delivery apps, in the above New York Times article. “It almost turns into a hostage situation.”
 
Restaurants Parse Extensive and Conflicting Guidance as They Reopen
 
As restaurants start to reopen, they have noticed that the way each state is looking to reopen may make it difficult to do a blanket reopening plan.
 
“There simply wasn’t a blanket set of restrictions that applied to all,” said James Miller in the above Wall Street Journal article, chief executive of Vision Investment Group, Inc., the Indiana-based owner of 42 Subway shops in three states. “I don’t see us being able to recoup what we lost this year.”
 
GrubHub Reaches Deal to Merge with Just Eat Takeaway
 
According to a QSR Magazine article, GrubHub is merging with Just Eat Takeaway for an estimated $7.3 billion. GubHub CEO Matt Maloney will join Just Eat’s board and lead the business in the United States while Just Eat’s CEO Jitse Groen will be the CEO of the merged company.
 
“Combining the companies that started it all will mean that two trailblazing start-ups have become a clear global leader,” Maloney said in a statement in the above article. “We share a focus on a hybrid model that places extra value on volume at independent restaurants, driving profitable growth.
