Chipotle Announces ‘Real Change Feature’ on App to Drive Equality

Chipotle’s new real change feature on its app and website will next feature the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, a non-profit organization that supports and represents students that attend its 47 member-schools, which includes publicly-supported historically black colleges and universities, (HBCUs) medical schools and law schools. The real change feature highlighting TMCF runs from Aug 6-23 and lets guests round-up their change to the next highest dollar amount on the restaurant brand’s app or website to help drive meaningful change for the Black community.

"It is important that we put our words into action and share our progress on combatting the injustices taking place today," says Marissa Andrada, chief diversity, inclusion and people officer at Chipotle. "Cultivating a better world takes commitment from all of us, and I'm encouraged by the accomplishments to date and eager to see how much more we can achieve together."

Chipotle is also partnering with TMCF to increase its diversity pipeline and will use the non-profit’s Talent Sourcing Program to find and develop diverse talent. The fast-food brand is also helping those looking for a college education by giving them better access and launching debt-free degrees last year with 100 percent of tuition costs covered upfront as well as Chipotle’s existing tuition reimbursement initiative.

"We are extremely grateful that Chipotle will utilize our Talent Sourcing Program to identify talent at our member-school campuses," says Harry Williams, the president and CEO of TMCF. "Chipotle's strong support of our mission will help us continue the critical and necessary work of ensuring that students have access to a higher education and new career opportunities."

Chipotle introduced the round-up technology into its app earlier this summer, and the brand has already seen over 1.4 million guests donate an average of 45 cents with each order, which totaled about $1 million to the fist highlighted organization, the National Urban League. Chipotle also pledged $1 million in support of organizations advocating against systematic racism, which began with a donation of $500,000 to the National Urban League.
