The highly competitive award is bestowed by the Utah Department of Workforce Services Office of Work & Family Life and is heavily based on employee feedback. Winning companies create exceptional workplaces that effectively balance employee work/life needs.
“This award, along with our recent naming to the Utah 100, is an exciting way to celebrate our 25th anniversary and honors the employees who create the positive culture here,” explains Casey Kleinman, President of Access Development. “We have spent a quarter century building loyalty for our clients—it only makes sense to apply those same principles to build loyalty within the Access family.”
In the spirit of work/life balance, the company is celebrating its anniversary year with the theme “Access Rocks,” complete with a new Rock Band video game system in the company’s warehouse. Meanwhile, Access continues to organize annual teams for softball, the Tour de Cure bike ride for diabetes and the Spudman Triathlon in Burley, Idaho.
“As we work, play and train together toward common goals, we build a culture of pushing our own limits and achieving new heights together,” explains Larry Maxfield, the company’s founder and C.E.O. “This attitude easily extends into the workplace.”
This employee-friendly approach has proven effective as the company has expanded. Over the past year, 87% of filled positions were due to growth, either as newly created openings or vacancies from employee promotions, and 48% were filled either internally or by employee referrals.
Employees also tend to stick around—54% of current employees have been with the company at least three years, 30% over five years.
“We strive to build loyalty internally just as we build loyalty for our client organizations,” explains Gina Yoder, Access Human Resources Manager, “We create personalized, win-win situations where everyone’s needs are met, both inside and outside of work.”
