Walmart Marketplace recently announced a series of innovations at the 2024 Let’s Grow! Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit. Included are initiatives to bolster seller success and enhance the customer experience. The innovations include expanded product categories, multichannel fulfillment solutions, and advanced tools to simplify selling.
“We’re executing strategic priorities at Walmart that are helping us to become the customers’ first choice—every day, every season, for every item. Walmart Marketplace is a key component of that mission,” said Tom Ward, Executive Vice President and Chief eCommerce Officer, Walmart U.S. “We know the importance of personalized, seamless omnichannel experiences, and Walmart continues to advance its digital and fulfillment capabilities, including the new categories and features we announced today, that enhance the overall customer and seller experience on Walmart.com.”
Walmart Marketplace has seen a 30-plus percent sales growth during the previous four quarters. The retailer’s global eCommerce sales topped $100B in 2023. Meanwhile, its U.S. division has doubled in growth over the past six quarters. Improved customer experiences, omnichannel offerings, and an increase in independent sellers are said to have fueled Walmart’s growth. Walmart saw a 20% increase in independent sellers during the last fiscal year.
A key focus of the development is the expansion of Walmart’s Marketplace assortment to include Premium Beauty, pre-owned merchandise, and collectibles. Walmart is also strengthening its omnichannel offerings with the launch of Walmart LocalFinds, which allows customers to discover and purchase products from local sellers’ physical stores and pick up the products or have them delivered. The program launches this fall in Atlanta and Dallas. It is part of Walmart’s larger strategy to bridge its physical stores with digital capabilities and create a seamless customer shopping experience.
Walmart is also rolling out new fulfillment solutions at competitive pricing, providing sellers greater flexibility and efficiency. Through Walmart’s Multichannel Solutions, sellers can now use Walmart’s logistics network to fulfill orders from any e-commerce platform. At the same time, the new Cross Border Fulfillment service allows sellers to import goods directly from Asia to Walmart facilities.
Finally, as the holiday season approaches, Walmart is introducing several tools to help sellers maximize their potential. This includes waiving peak season storage fees for sellers using Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) and offering cash advances of up to $5M through Walmart Marketplace Capital.
