Shake Shack Launches “Project Catalyst” to Power Growth and Innovation

Shake Shack has introduced Project Catalyst, a company-wide technology initiative designed to support its expansion to 1,500 company-operated locations. The program focuses on upgrading digital infrastructure, enhancing restaurant operations, and strengthening guest engagement. Rooted in the brand’s commitment to hospitality, the initiative aims to create a more efficient, data-driven, and scalable foundation for long-term growth.

Shake Shack CEO Rob Lynch said, “Shake Shack is entering a significant phase of growth and building the right foundation to support that scale is a top priority. Project Catalyst strengthens the technology and digital capabilities that power our restaurants and connect us more meaningfully with our guests. These investments will help our teams operate more efficiently, enhance the guest experience, and position Shake Shack to scale successfully toward 1,500 Company-operated Shacks.”

At the core of Project Catalyst are several key upgrades. Shake Shack is modernizing its point-of-sale and kitchen systems through a cloud-based platform known as Qu to improve speed, accuracy, and operational flow. 

Shake Shack Chief Information and Technology Officer Justin Mennen said, “As Shake Shack continues to grow, we’re building a technology platform designed to scale with the business. Project Catalyst brings together modern restaurant systems, advanced data platforms, and AI-driven capabilities that help our teams operate more efficiently and make faster decisions. By connecting our POS, digital, loyalty, and AI capabilities into one ecosystem, we’re creating the foundation to deliver Enlightened Hospitality at scale.”

The company is also launching its first loyalty program to deepen customer relationships and drive repeat visits through personalized experiences. In addition, expanded AI capabilities will deliver real-time insights and support decision-making across restaurant operations, while a strengthened data platform will unify guest and operational data to improve performance and personalization.

Together, these enhancements are designed to streamline operations, improve service consistency, and enable smarter, faster decision-making across the organization. The initiative also lays the groundwork for continued innovation, ensuring Shake Shack can scale efficiently while maintaining its signature guest experience..
