Pizza Hut Heightens Customer Engagement as It Celebrates 40 Years of BOOK IT!® Reading Program

Just in time for National Book Month, Pizza Hut is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its BOOK IT!® program. To mark the occasion, Pizza Hut is giving away one million Personal Pan Pizzas® to readers all through October. Anyone who enjoys reading and pizza can claim their free pizza with an $8 or more order at Pizza Hut, using the code "BOOKIT40" online or in the app. Pizza Hut is also offering a special BOOK IT! Bundle. The bundle includes two large one-topping pizzas and breadsticks, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the program. 

Launched in 1984, BOOK IT! is the nation’s longest-running corporate reading program, encouraging students through sixth grade to set reading goals and achieve them. Its mission is to cultivate a love of reading. With the 40th anniversary, Pizza Hut is extending the program’s mission to readers of all ages and invites communities to join together and share the joy of books. 

Pizza Hut U.S. President Carl Loredo said, “I’m incredibly proud of what the BOOK IT! program has achieved over the past four decades. It’s inspired more than 70 million children to discover the magic of books, helping to build a lifelong love of reading. As we’re celebrating 40 years, we’re excited to invite readers of all ages to rediscover the joy of reading—one book (and pizza) at a time.” 

The BOOK IT! Program has evolved to make it easier for families and schools to participate by meeting modern educational needs, including virtual classrooms and digital reading logs. The program is still free, and parents and educators are encouraged to sign up to ensure future generations continue to benefit from it. 

Since the program’s inception, more than 1.5 billion pizzas have been given to younger readers. Pizza Hut has partnered with First Book in recent years to provide free or discounted books to Title 1 schools, impacting more than 391,000 children in underserved communities. The program has been well received and supported by U.S. Presidents, including President Ronald Reagan.
