Restaurant giant McDonald's has announced it will offer free Thank You meals to healthcare workers, police officers, firefighter and paramedic as, obviously, a thank you. This program will run between Wednesday, April 22 and Tuesday, May 5. These meals are limited to one per person per day and valid identification is required.
The Thank You Meals require no compensation and can be acquired via drive-thru or carry out at McDonald's locations participating in the program through May 5.
"We have been inspired by the way our franchisees have been going above and beyond to support their local communities throughout this trying time," said Joe Erlinger, President, McDonald's USA in a press release. "I couldn't be more proud of how our company, franchisees and supplier partners have come together to give back to those who are working tirelessly for our country. That is truly our McDonald's system at its best."
The meal will come in the traditional Happy Meal box and have a few options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will have a "choice of an Egg McMuffin®, Chicken McGriddles® or a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and a Hash Brown" while lunch and dinner will consist of a "choice of a Double Cheeseburger, 6-Piece Chicken McNuggets® or a Filet-O-Fish® will be offered. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and small fries."
The Thank You Meal will also contain a note of appreciation to those who are working hard on the frontlines.
"Our restaurants have always been a place for the community to come together and share everyday feel-good moments with family, friends and neighbors," said Vicki Chancellor, an Atlanta-based Owner/Operator and chair of McDonald's Operator's National Advertising Committee in the same news release. "And, now during times like this, it's more important than ever for our restaurants to continue to serve and help the communities that have supported us for so long."
McDonald's has enacted multiple measures to make sure its employees and customers are safe during the pandemic, such as having a more in-depth cleaning routine, simplifying operations at each store, giving two weeks paid sick leave for employees impacted by the virus, and daily wellness checks. Other measures include guidelines for employees to wear gloves in stores, and the addition of floor decals to make sure social distancing requirements are met.
