Publix Charities Donates $11 Million to Fight Food Insecurity
Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) has announced an $11M donation to support more than 300 food banks and nonprofits in local communities, including 39 food banks in the Feeding America network. The contribution is part of Publix's annual Publix Serves Week, which focuses on alleviating food insecurity in local communities. The funds will aid various programs, including food pantries, weekend backpack programs, and meal delivery services. Additionally, some of the donation will be used to purchase 15 vehicles and vital equipment for food distribution and delivery. Since 2015, PSMC has donated more than $63M in the fight against hunger.
Publix CEO Kevin Murphy stated, “At Publix, we believe providing food for our neighbors in need is our greatest opportunity to give back, and doing so is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts. We’re also grateful to Publix Super Markets Charities for their continued commitment to helping people experiencing food insecurity. Publix and Publix Charities’ continued work with food banks across the Southeast provide vital resources and nourishment to better the lives of individuals in our communities.”
In addition to the donation, more than 7,000 Publix associates are volunteering at almost 150 nonprofit organizations during Publix Serves Week. Publix continues its efforts to combat hunger throughout the year with initiatives like the Good Together campaign, encouraging customers and associates to contribute to local food banks. In May 2024, Publix achieved a milestone by donating more than 100 million pounds of produce to Feeding America food banks.

Ahold Delhaize and General Mills Partner to Expand Regenerative Agriculture Initiative
Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of grocery chains Giant Food, Food Lion, and Stop & Shop, is partnering with General Mills to further regenerative agriculture practices. The companies will work together to reduce emissions and improve sustainability across their supply chains, focusing on essential ingredients like wheat and oats. They plan to invest in farms using sustainable methods, including nutrient management and cover cropping. Kansas and Saskatchewan in Canada will be prime focus areas to transform more than 70,000 acres of farmland by 2025.
Ahold Delhaize USA Chief Sustainability Officer Marc Stolzman said, “This relationship emphasizes how strategic collaboration is essential for addressing climate impacts and creating positive environmental outcomes. Ahold Delhaize USA looks forward to the learnings from this supply shed collaboration and using the findings to drive progress across the supply chain.”
The collaboration marks Ahold Delhaize’s second push into regenerative agriculture, following a similar partnership with Kellanova earlier this year in North Carolina. The new collaboration with General Mills highlights the growing trend of major food supply chain players working together to combat climate change. The nonprofit Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC) will play a central role in the current initiative, managing the environmental impact measurement and third-party verification of the project’s ecological outcomes. By investing millions, General Mills has been actively involved since 2020 in helping Kansas wheat farmers adopt sustainable practices. General Mills and Ahold Delhaize hope to benefit producers, corporations, and consumers through their initiatives surrounding regenerative agriculture.
