Burger King Asks Wendy’s to the Prom

The battle for QSR customers is never ending and fierce, but who says fast food chains can’t get along after hours? A Lynn, Mass., Burger King used its signboard (and social media) to ask its next-door neighbor, Wendy’s, to attend the prom. Wendy’s replied on Twitter, “OK, but don’t get handsy and we have to be home by 10.” According to an article in AdWeek, the stunt generated a lot of attention for both brands and is, figuratively, a sign of the times, as such a stunt would have been “an annoyance of corporate overlords at one time.” No more. Social media responses suggested Burger King should have asked Dairy Queen, and probably would have chosen Taco Bell if its name was Taco Belle. “Gotta love the girl next door,” someone said. After Wendy’s responded, Burger King changed its signboard to, “She said yes!”

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream Launches Sweet Rewards Loyalty Program

As warm weather starts sweeping the nation and people start turning to ice cream as a way of beating the heat, the Massachusetts-based Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is launching a Sweet Rewards customer loyalty program across most of its 200 franchised shops in 20 states. Guests receive a $3 reward just for joining, earn 1 point for every $1 spent and at 50 points earn a $5 reward. Bruster’s wanted to move from a long-time eClub program to a more modern, full-scale loyalty program that would enable its franchisees to take advantage of data analytics and mobile technology to uncover opportunities for increasing revenue. Bruster’s turned to Paytronix as its loyalty program partner. Bruster’s features 150 flavors of handcrafted ice cream, yogurt, Italian ice and sorbet.
