Giant Eagle Enhances the Customer Experience and Delivery Efficiency with AI FlyBuy Technology

Pittsburg-based regional grocer Giant Eagle is expanding its use of mobile technology to enhance its delivery operations. In 2020, the company integrated the Radius Networks AI FlyBuy Pickup platform into its corporate mobile app to improve the accuracy and speed of in-store pickups. The FlyBuy platform uses location services to track customers' estimated arrival times and notify the store as they approach, streamlining the pickup process. Building on the success of FlyBuy Pickup, Giant Eagle is now using the same technology to optimize its delivery services. With FlyBuy's real-time alerts and dashboard integration, the grocer has significantly reduced wait times for delivery drivers from partners like DoorDash and Instacart. Average wait times for drivers have fallen to 2.5 minutes, cutting the previous times in half and outperforming the industry average of 10 minutes.

Giant Eagle’s Senior Director of Strategy, E-Commerce, and Innovation, Heather Feather, said, “At Giant Eagle, we are always exploring opportunities to increase efficiency and convenience by leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the customer experience. Using Flybuy for delivery has helped lower wait times for our customers, building their confidence that their fresh groceries will be delivered quickly and reliably."

FlyBuy’s AI-powered location technology has also helped Giant Eagle improve delivery accuracy, reducing wrong orders and missed items, boosting customer satisfaction, minimizing refunds, and leading to repeat business.
