Dove Celebrates Authentic Beauty, Eschews AI in Ads

Twenty years ago, Dove challenged society to reshape its understanding of real beauty after only 2% of women worldwide admitted they felt beautiful. A recent study by Dove, “The Real State of Beauty: A Global Report,” shows that society still has room to improve regarding beauty expectations. The study revealed that over one-third of women in the U.S. would sacrifice a year of their lives for an ideal appearance. Despite a more inclusive evolution of beauty standards across different races, orientations, genders, and sizes, societal expectations continue, with 81% of women feeling pressured to look healthy, 72% to be slim, and 69% to have a small waist while also being curvy (59%).

The recent increase in artificial intelligence (AI) applications threatens to further undermine beauty representation. Ninety percent of online content is projected to be AI-generated within a year. Unfortunately, one-third of women say they feel pressured to alter their appearance because of what they encounter online, even when they know it’s AI-generated or not an accurate representation.

In maintaining its stance against toxic beauty standards, Dove is celebrating its two-decade journey with a renewed commitment to authentic beauty and vows never to use AI-generated images of people in its advertising.

“At Dove, we seek a future in which women get to decide and declare what real beauty looks like — not algorithms,” said Alessandro Manfredi, Chief Marketing Officer, Dove. “As we navigate the opportunities and challenges that come with new and emerging technology, we remain committed to protect, celebrate, and champion Real Beauty. Pledging to never use AI in our communications is just one step. We will not stop until beauty is a source of happiness, not anxiety, for every woman and girl.”

Celebrating 100th Restaurant Milestone, Pollo Campero Donates $100,000 to St. Jude

The Guatemalan fast-casual restaurant Pollo Campero is commemorating its 100th restaurant opening by launching a limited-time St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital cup that offers patrons free unlimited Pollo Campero drink refills on their favorite beverages. Guests can purchase the exclusive 32-ounce cup for $5 to help support the efforts of St. Jude in its mission to develop treatments and cures for life-threatening pediatric diseases. To celebrate its 100th restaurant, Pollo Campero is also donating 100,000 to St. Jude, with part of the funding for the donation coming from the sales of the cup.
