Digital Payments Could Alter the Future of Convenience Stores—and Everything Else
Are cashiers going the way of the dodo? Well, they may not be extinct yet, but a recent story on cnet.com noted that things are moving in that direction. Anyone who has ever been to Disney and utilized the MagicBand—just hold it next to a scanner and it uses RF technology to charge your account—knows how convenient (and dangerous) such a concept is. Amazon has already opened convenience stores where scanners recognize you when you walk in, automatically scan the items you want to buy, and charges your credit card when you walk out. And, apparently, that’s just the beginning. Other technologies are moving in this direction. Voice or face biometrics aren’t that far off. A British company created something called “Fingopay” that builds a 3D map of veins in your finger. NFL Rewards Loyal Fans with Draft Day Experience
Players in the National Football League come and go. Free agency has made player loyalty a thing of the past. When it comes to being a loyal fan, though, that’s a different matter. And the NFL recognizes this—and is rewarding these faithful, loyal followers. For the fifth straight year, 32 season ticket holders—one from each NFL team—were flown to Dallas to take part in yesterday’s NFL draft as part of the NFL’s Membership Club, a loyalty program the league set up as a benefit to season ticket holders. Members are automatically enrolled in the program and receive exclusive benefits from the NFL and its partners, including an “Extra Points” program through the NFL’s Visa credit card. Arizona Cardinals season ticket holder Bob Fischer detailed his experience to azfamily.com.
