Amazon Launches Amazon Haul, a Low-Cost Storefront to Compete with Chinese Discount Rivals
Amazon has introduced Amazon Haul, a new budget-friendly online storefront featuring apparel, electronics, and other goods under $20. Announced in a recent blog post, the platform primarily features items priced below $10, with free shipping on orders of more than $25. Products will be shipped to U.S. customers from an Amazon-operated warehouse in China, with estimated delivery times ranging from one to two weeks. The new initiative positions Amazon to challenge growing competitors like Shein and Temu in the low-cost retail space.
Amazon Vice President of Worldwide Selling Partner Services, Dharmesh Mehta, said, “Finding great products at very low prices is important to customers, and we continue to explore ways that we can work with our selling partners so they can offer products at ultra-low prices. It’s early days for this experience, and we’ll continue to listen to customers as we refine and expand it in the weeks and months to come.”
The new online storefront will only be available on its mobile website and shopping app, showcasing unbranded, low-cost items such as $2.99 phone cases, $14.99 dresses, and budget-friendly activewear. Both Shein and Temu have built a loyal customer base, especially among young, cost-conscious shoppers. However, these platforms have faced criticism for their environmental impact and scrutiny over product quality and compliance. By targeting value-conscious consumers with banners touting “crazy low prices,” Amazon hopes to capture market share while keeping an eye on customer feedback to refine its offering.
