SEATTLE, WA, Sep 08, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX)—BigDoor, the most widely used gamification and loyalty platform, today announced it has acquired San Francisco-based OneTrueFan, a distributed community and web check-in rewards provider. The acquisition follows a year of tremendous growth for BigDoor, which has already more than tripled in size from one year ago. The acquisition will expand the company’s loyalty and rewards offering, increase its developer team and grow its partner network. This acquisition also extends BigDoor’s presence to Silicon Valley and is the first of its kind in the gamification space.

“BigDoor and OneTrueFan share the vision of making the world more rewarding through social engagement and loyalty programs,” said Keith Smith, BigDoor co-founder and CEO. “OneTrueFan has created an outstanding technology that complements BigDoor’s next generation gamification, rewards and social loyalty programs, and immediately expands BigDoor’s reach. With an unmatched development team and an expanding geographic footprint, this acquisition further cements our role as the largest provider of gamified loyalty solutions.”

OneTrueFan is a service for web publishers that enables visitors to earn points for their online activity and compete to become a site’s biggest fan. Visitors also earn badges for interacting with and sharing content on the sites they visit.

“We knew early on that game mechanics would grow to become a significant differentiator in driving user loyalty and site engagement,” said Todd Sampson, co-CEO of OneTrueFan. “More than any other company in this growing category, BigDoor gets how to do it right.”

Through the acquisition of OneTrueFan, BigDoor gains an experienced team of developers and a large network of web publishers. BigDoor also enhances its growth by adding a new, turnkey rewards program targeted to small and medium size web publishers. The OneTrueFan team will play a vital role in developing and growing the turnkey BigDoor Rewards program.

“We’ve been impressed by both the quality of their technical offerings and the amazing team they have put together,” said Eric Marcoullier, co-CEO of OneTrueFan. “We are looking forward to using our deep knowledge of distributed communities and systems to help bring BigDoor’s innovative technology to an even larger group of customers.”

OneTrueFan launched at TechCrunch Disrupt 2010 and is founded by Eric Marcoullier and Todd Sampson. Friends since fifth grade, the co-founders have a history of innovation, with Marcoullier previously co-founding the pioneering games site IGN.com in 1996, the first distributed social network MyBlogLog in 2005 (acquired by Yahoo in 2007), and social data provider Gnip in 2008. Sampson co-founded MyBlogLog in addition to Cloudspace in 1996.
