Fried Rice for Days
To commemorate the official designation of September 20th as National Fried Rice Day, two Benihana chefs, Andrey Shek and Raymundo Mendez, will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest cooking marathon. They will begin cooking fried rice on September 18th and continue doing so for 42 consecutive hours. They will have to stand in front of two 500-degree flattop grills while they cook and are only allowed to take one five-minute break every hour. All the fried rice that they cook will be donated to two charities that help feed struggling families. In addition, Benihana customers at select locations will receive a complementary portion of fried rice on September 20th.
“National Fried Rice Day is our way of bringing our signature dish to the forefront while giving back to our community and also giving guests a special opportunity to enjoy our iconic Benihana guest experience,” says Benihana Chief Executive Officer and President Tom Baldwin.

Thomas’ English Muffins have been around for 140 years, and the company wants to celebrate this month (which happens to be Nation Breakfast Month). So, it’s conducting a search for the biggest English muffin fan in the United States. The person who ends up being designated the #1 English Muffin Fan will receive a gold medal in the shape of an English muffin, a bunch of Thomas’ English Muffins merchandise, and free muffins for a year. To be considered, fans need to head over to Thomas’ Facebook page, fill out a form, write a short explanation of why they should be chosen, and upload a video. The contest runs until September 15th.
“After nearly 140 years of bringing our signature English muffins to breakfast tables across the country, the Thomas’ brand is tremendously grateful to our loyal fans who continue to make us the #1 English muffin in America,” says Richard Link, Senior Marketing Director of Thomas’. “We’re excited to launch this special contest during our favorite time of year—National Breakfast Month—to celebrate the delicious morning moments that we strive to deliver each and every day. We look forward to hearing stories and experiences from our fans and awarding the illustrious English muffin medal to our greatest brand champion.”
