They’ve been trickling into social media feeds for years now, and there doesn’t seem to be any sign that they are slowing. No, not cat photos (though, will they ever let up?). I’m referring to social media Ads.

By 2017 it is projected that over $11 billion will be spent on social media advertising, a nearly two-fold increase since 2013, according to the most recent data from Mintel. This increase comes at a time when marketers are pursuing more creative venues for reaching consumers.

According to the forecast, half of Americans on social media say social media channels have some impact on their purchase decisions and knowledge of products, and an overwhelming 79% say they have viewed or shared company content from a brand’s social media page.

Additionally, the data trends project advertising revenue from locally-targeted social media ads to increase from $1.1 billion (2012) to $3.6 billion (2014). eMarketer is finding similar trends in mobile social ad spend, from $1 billion this year to $2.2 billion in 2017. American social media consumers can come to expect a lot more ad fodder in social feeds in the coming years.

On second thought, I’ll take the cats.
