Finally - a clock you can wear on your wrist!
If you were able to tap into Apple’s live keynote this week, you will know it was no ordinary keynote. It began with all of the expected pomp and Silicon Valley glitz of past keynotes: It’s an iPhone – but it’s a better iPhone!
In fact, it’s not just another iPhone; with the introduction of Apple Pay, the company is taking a huge leap into the world of finance through mobile payments.
However, the visual highlight of the event was Tim Cook’s revealing of that “one more thing”: Apple Watch. Apple Watch, the company’s smart watch submission to battle with Samsung Galaxy gear, aims to make wearable tech a common consumer commodity.
Cook made it clear that Apple was not simply shrinking the iPhone. For its wearable tech to work, it needed to blend into the user experience seamlessly. Simplicity in design has always been critical for Apple, and the leveraging of an age-old watch function – the crown – into a “Digital Crown,” allows users to dive into the Apple Watch without blocking the screen. The Digital Crown is Apple’s version of the rotating knob on analog watches, and will allow users the ability to zoom and scroll within the watch without having to touch the screen.
Apple Watch will integrate with the company’s new digital payment platform, Apple Pay, with the eventual goal of replacing physical wallets. With Apple Pay, Apple Watch users will be able to wave a hand to pay for a goods and services, ultimately speed up transactions.
