U.S. News Shares Best Travel Rewards Programs

U.S. News & World Report has released its 2025–2026 rankings of the best travel rewards programs, offering updated guidance for travelers looking to maximize value through loyalty. In the hotel category, Choice Privileges earned the top spot for the first time, recognized for its easy-to-redeem rewards, simplified elite status tiers, and expanded network following its acquisition of Radisson Hotels and partnership with Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Wyndham Rewards and World of Hyatt round out the top three, both praised for offering flexible redemptions and solid global coverage.

On the airline side, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan maintained its No. 1 ranking for the 11th consecutive year. Its standout feature remains a mileage-based accrual system—rather than revenue-based—making it easier for budget-conscious travelers to earn rewards. The program also offers early access to perks like upgrades and free checked bags. United MileagePlus and American AAdvantage followed closely in the rankings, bolstered by their vast route networks, international partnerships, and consistent member benefits.

This year’s rankings reflect an updated methodology that incorporates real-world airline performance data, including on-time arrivals, lost baggage rates, and customer satisfaction metrics from the U.S. Department of Transportation. With these additions, the list aims to better reflect the practical value of loyalty programs for everyday travelers. U.S. News emphasizes that both casual and frequent travelers can benefit by selecting a program that aligns with their travel patterns and offers flexible, attainable rewards.

Mall of America Implements AI-Powered Analytics

Mall of America (MOA), North America’s largest retail-entertainment complex, has expanded its partnership with Axis Communications. It recently announced a wider rollout of AI-driven car‑counting and video analytics across more than a dozen parking locations. This initiative strengthens parking operations, boosts security, and empowers data‑driven planning for staff scheduling and large‑scale events—including concerts and food festivals.

The system began with a successful pilot: an Axis camera installed on a standalone light pole showed over 99 percent accuracy even in tough Midwestern weather conditions—with minor tweaks further improving results. Utilizing edge-based line-crossing analytics, MOA can distinguish vehicles entering the facility from those passing nearby. Additionally, networked cameras and speakers enhance security by proactively detecting unauthorized access and instantly alerting central security.

Looking forward, MOA plans to integrate further AI capabilities like people counting, license-plate recognition, and refined visitor segmentation (e.g., differentiating hotel guests from general shoppers). These advancements promise richer insights into traffic patterns and customer behavior.
