Uber Eats Is Taking Food Delivery to the Skies
Uber is expanding its approach to automated delivery through a new partnership with drone delivery company Zipline, as NRN reports. Beginning later this year, eligible Uber Eats customers in select U.S. markets where Zipline operates will be able to choose drone delivery directly through the app. The partnership adds autonomous drones to Uber’s broader mix of delivery options, alongside couriers and sidewalk robots, as the company explores ways to make deliveries faster and more efficient. Zipline’s drones are capable of flying above road traffic at speeds of up to 70 mph, potentially cutting delivery times for meals and other goods. Uber is also investing in Zipline as the companies look to expand the service to additional markets over time, according to NRN.
