Body Scanners Coming to LA Metro
Millimeter wave scanners are coming to LA metro. We don’t know what that means either. However, we do know what they will be doing. The scanners, "will help detect weapon and explosive device security threats on the county's transit system," according to the LA Transit Authority. At $100,000 each, the scanners do not use radiation to scan people, instead using the radiation emitted by humans to do the scanning. This will also not cause a massive delay like the scanners in airports typically have. According to NPR, “They also do not require passengers to line up and pass through the system one by one. The Thruvision screening devices can monitor people as they walk through the Metro station as they normally do.” The scanners are portable and can be moved to different locations or spots where there’s a security concern.

PTO? America says, “Nah, we’re good.”
This week, CNBC released the findings from the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) regarding paid time off for employees throughout the world. Incredibly, the United States sits at the very bottom of the list. The UK sits at the top of the list with a total of 37 days off per year, the US averages about 10. The differences are remarkable. Even worse, around 28 million Americans currently do not have paid vacation or paid holidays. However, there is hope on the horizon! Americans in 2017 took an average of 17 paid days off, which was the highest level in seven years. Maybe the younger generations will start shifting America towards taking more days off.
