ExxonMobil Rewards + Loyalty Program Enhances CX

ExxonMobil has launched the Exxon Mobil Rewards + Loyalty program, which enables customers to earn and redeem points on fuel, car washes, and convenience store purchases at participating Exxon and Mobil stations.

This program has been implemented to improve the customers’ experiences by rewarding them for choosing to shop with the company. Some features of the program, such as being able to earn and use points on convenience store purchases, are not industry standard, which makes the Rewards+ program stand out. Customers can pick up a program card at any participating station or register online.

Sarah Nordin, media relations advisor for the Public & Government Affairs department at ExxonMobil, discussed the platform.

“Through data and analytics we evaluate new technologies that help improve the car ownership experience,” discussed Nordin. “We constantly seek ways to better meet consumer needs and are excited about utilizing
emerging trends and technologies to enhance our consumer offerings.”

This personalization strategy emphasizes ExxonMobil’s comprehension that it needs to understand its customers’ tastes and demographics.    

The program replaces the company’s previous Plenti loyalty program. Customers who participated in this program and who meet the eligibility criteria will receive a Rewards+ card in the mail.
Unused Plenti points are carried over after a customer registers a Rewards+ account. To be eligible, customers must be fully enrolled Plenti members, who have not opted out of data sharing, and who have shopped at an Exxon or Mobil station between June 2017 and July 2018.

The Rewards+ program, “is designed to be flexible and to meet the evolving needs and expectations of our customers,” says Eric Carmichael, fuels marketing manager at ExxonMobil Fuels & Lubricants Company. “By managing our own loyalty program, we have the ability to make enhancements and add partners.”

In addition to earning 100 bonus points for registering a Rewards+ account, program members receive 15 points per gallon for the first 30 days of membership. This promotion ends December 31, 2018.

After these 30 days, members earn three points per gallon on fuel and two points for every $1 they spend on convenience store items and car washes. Members also receive special bonus offers throughout the year. Every 100 points earned translates to $1 in savings that members may redeem at participating stations.
ExxonMobil has also integrated its popular Speedpass+ app with the new loyalty program. Speedpass+ customers can pay for fuel and manage their rewards from their iPhone or Android devices.

Customers can also register for the Rewards+ program through the app. Nordin says the app, “is a fast, easy and secure way to pay for fuel and car washes. It enables customers to authorize a pump through cloud-based technology and does not require waving or tapping the phone. Speedpass+ users will have an Exxon Mobil Rewards+ card automatically linked in their app, though they will need to reset their pins and accept the new terms and conditions to receive the full benefits of the program.”
