Target Commits $10 Million for Rebuilding Efforts and Advancing Social Justice

Target has announced it is committing $10 million in addition to ongoing resources to advance social justice and recovery efforts in local communities.

“Target stands with Black families, communities, and team members. As we face an inflection point in Minneapolis and across the country, we’re listening to our team, guests and communities, committed to using our size, scale and resources to help heal and create lasting change,” said Brian Cornell, chairman and CEO, Target, in a Target press release.

The initials efforts of this include:

  • $10 million investment from Target and the Target Foundation to support its long-time partners like the National Urban League and the African American Leadership Forum as well as new partners in Minneapolis-St. Paul, as well as across the country.
  • Ten thousand hours of pro-bono consulting services for Black and people-of-color-owned small businesses in the Twin Cities, helping with rebuilding efforts.
  • Still providing essentials like baby formula, diapers, medicine, and more to communities in need.
  • Target Circle, the brand’s loyalty program, will give guests the ability to direct Target funds to local nonprofits and include organizations supporting social justice.

“We at the African American Leadership Forum have had a long-standing partnership with Target from our inception,” said Marcus Owens, Executive Director of the African American Leadership Forum – Twin Cities, in the same Target news release. “At this critical moment in our Twin Cities communities and across the country, we appreciate the solidarity Target has shown to help rebuild as well as be part of the necessary systems changes ahead of us.”

Target has also established an internal task force made up of senior leaders from across the company. It will partner with the brand’s team members, guests, and members of the community to help move the company forward and figure out the next steps.
