The NFL and Microsoft have extended their longstanding partnership, marking the beginning of a new phase focused on artificial intelligence. By integrating advanced tools like Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI, the NFL is enhancing various aspects of the sport, from improving sideline decision-making to scouting new talent and streamlining stadium operations.

With more than 330 events across 30 stadiums annually and a massive global fanbase, the NFL is leveraging Microsoft’s AI and cloud solutions to deliver faster, smarter insights to coaches, players, and analysts during and beyond game day.

NFL CIO Gary Brantley said, “We are entering a new era of innovation at the NFL through our collaboration with Microsoft to deploy AI across key areas of the business. Enhancing the league is a responsibility we take seriously, and Microsoft has been a trusted sideline technology partner for over a decade. With Microsoft's AI technologies, including Copilot, there are tremendous opportunities to elevate the gameday experience for our clubs and deliver an even more compelling product to our fans.”

On the field, over 2,500 Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs have been deployed across all 32 teams, equipping around 1,800 players and over 1,000 coaches and staff with real-time game intelligence.

Enhanced with GitHub Copilot, these systems allow users to quickly filter and analyze plays, formations, and coverage based on key variables like down, scoring plays, distance, or penalties. This enables more strategic, data-driven decisions.

Coaches also benefit from Microsoft 365 Copilot-powered dashboards that assist with rapid adjustments and in-game strategy development. Off the field, Microsoft AI is transforming how the NFL operates behind the scenes. AI dashboards are being developed to help game operations managers track and manage disruptions, such as weather delays or technical issues.

Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay said, “Making sound decisions and putting players in the best spots on the field is a coach’s ultimate responsibility. Microsoft Copilot enhances our efficiency and accuracy by breaking down complex data into digestible insights that can be quickly communicated to our players and help them realize their highest potential.”

Additionally, Azure AI video tools are aiding in player evaluation, practice review, and injury assessments. Clubs are also beginning to apply AI to broader operations, from scouting and draft analysis to managing marketing, finance, and HR workflows.
