Airbnb Modernizes its Mobile App to Be Similar to Amazon  

Airbnb is undertaking a significant overhaul of its mobile application to transform it into a comprehensive travel platform, drawing its inspiration from Amazon’s one-stop-shop model. CEO Brian Chesky highlighted that while the platform is accessed by nearly 1.6 billion devices annually, it’s not a frequently used app.  

To address this, the company has introduced over 50 upgrades, including personalized recommendations, search filters, and intuitive design changes that will help streamline the booking process and offer a more tailored user experience. “We want the Airbnb app to be similar to Amazon, in tat you only need one place to go,” said Chesky.  

Airbnb’s app has introduced brand-new listing management tools, making it easier for hosts to list their homes and offer more services in the future. It also upgraded its messaging system into a unified platform, allowing hosts and guests seamless communication. The app’s enhancements are already paying off as more than 75% of Gen Z travelers are using the Airbnb app to book their quick winter escapes.

Asda Launches Free Sample Vending Machine  

Asda, a U.K. supermarket chain, launched a pilot program featuring an automated free sample vending machine at its Pilsworth, Bury location. This innovative approach allows customers to receive complimentary product samples by scanning their Asda Rewards loyalty app.  

The first brand to participate in this initiative is Müller, offering samples of its Frijj drink. The program is managed by LS Eleven Media Services, Asda’s retail media division, which provides brands with the opportunity to display products and content on digital screens integrated with the vending machine.  

Similar programs have launched in the U.S., with reported sales lifts exceeding 50% for these brands. Asda aims to leverage customer’s data from its Rewards program to provide more targeted advertising for brands.

Chipotle makes NASCAR debut with partnership with driver Ryan Blaney 

Chipotle has announced its inaugural partnership with NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney, marking the restaurant chain’s first venture into the motorsports arena. Blaney is a 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion and a third-generation racer.  

Blaney is the first NASCAR athlete to have his go-to order featured as a digital entrée in the chain’s app and on their website. His go-to meal, which features brown rice, black beans, chicken, steak, tomatillo red-chili salsa, guacamole, and cheese is now available for a limited time.  

As part of the partnership, Chipotle will operate a pop-up restaurant from February 21-23 in the Fan Zone at the historic Atlanta Motor Speedway, serving up $8 bowls, burritos, and tacos. Customers can also score ticket upgrades and exclusive giveaways, and the first 500 guests at the mobile kitchen will receive a free entrée on Friday night.
