Hyundai Becomes First Automaker to Sell Vehicles on Amazon

The Hyundai Motor Company and Amazon announced last week the automaker will begin selling vehicles on the e-commerce site in 2024. As part of the multiyear agreement, Hyundai is migrating its digital infrastructure to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. By 2025, all Hyundai vehicles will be equipped with Amazon’s Alexa voice command technology.

Amazon’s vehicle sales platform allows shoppers to search for models in their area and purchase them from local dealers using Amazon checkout. Buyers can also review and select financing options and arrange for pickup or delivery on the site.

Hyundai’s transition to the AWS cloud includes applications for product research, engineering, and customer engagement. The companies have implemented a training and certification program to teach Hyundai engineers critical cloud skills. The upcoming in-vehicle Alexa system provides travel information such as traffic updates, directions, and weather reports — and access to smart home features from the road.

“Partnering with one of the world's most customer-centric organizations unlocks incredible opportunities as we continue to expand our portfolio, grow our sales network, transition to electrification and realize the future of smart mobility," said Jaehoon (Jay) Chan, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company.
