Amazon Announces Record-Breaking Holiday Season

Based on billions of items ordered and tens of millions of Amazon devices purchased, Amazon declared this holiday season a record breaker.
The online retailer’s hottest departments were toys and games, fashion, and home and beauty. Top toys in the U.S. included L.O.L. Surprise! Glitter Globe Doll Winter Disco Series with Glitter Hair, Melissa & Doug Scratch Art Box of Rainbow Mini Notes, and Nerf N Strike Elite Strongarm Toy Blaster.
Carhartt, Champion, adidas and Amazon Essentials were some of the most popular fashion brands ordered by customers, while some of the best-selling home items included the Instant Pot Duo 80 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, iRobot Roomba 675 Robot Vacuum and Linenspa 6-Inch Innerspring Twin Mattress.
From the beauty category, HAUS LABORATORIES By Lady Gaga: GLAM ROOM PALETTE NO.1: FAME, Eyeshadow Palette, Philips Sonicare – Diamond Clean Classic Electronic Toothbrush, and Crest 3D White Dental Whitening Kit were among the biggest hits.
Prime was more popular than ever, with more people trying it than any previous year. Compared to this time a year ago, deliveries through Prime Free One-Day and Prime Free Same-Day nearly quadrupled, Amazon reported. There also was an 80 percent increase in the number of Prime members who tried grocery delivery for the first time.
Amazon says tens of millions times people reached out to Alexa for recipes and cooking advice, with “Thanksgiving Turkey, Chocolate Chips Cookies, and Fluffy Mashed Potatoes” topping the list. Meanwhile, Home Alone, Elf, and The Grinch were the most searched for holiday movies on Fire TV with Alexa.
Amazon added more than 250,000 full and part-time seasonal roles, bring the company’s total to 750,000 employees around the world.
“This holiday season has been better than ever thanks to our customers and employees all around the world,” Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, said in a company release. “On behalf of all Amazonians, we wish everyone the happiest of holidays and a fantastic 2020.”
