Derek Whitworth is Managing Director for Marketing and Loyalty Optimization at Air Canada, which is a finalist for the 2021 Loyalty360 Awards in Customer Loyalty Innovation and Transformation category. They will deliver their final presentation during Loyalty Expo this October.

Whitworth spoke with Loyalty360 CEO Mark Johnson about the campaign.

Air Canada is Canada's largest domestic and international airline and in 2020 was among the top 20 largest airlines in the world. It is Canada's flag carrier and a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's most comprehensive air transportation network. Air Canada is the only international network carrier in North America to receive a Four-Star ranking according to independent U.K. research firm Skytrax.

Since Air Canada’s purchase of Aeroplan, it has been transforming the program to enable members to travel more and travel better. They officially re-launched the program in November 2020. The name has stayed the same but the program is beyond anything Canadians have seen before. New features of the transformed Aeroplan program include:

  • Every seat, every Air Canada flight, no restrictions. Members can redeem Aeroplan points to purchase any Air Canada seat that is available for sale, no restrictions.

  • No cash surcharges on Air Canada flights. Additional airline surcharges, including fuel surcharges, on all flight rewards with Air Canada are eliminated. Members pay cash only for taxes and third-party fees (and can even pay for those with Aeroplan points).

  • Extra perks within reach. Members can use their Aeroplan points for popular extras, such as in-flight Wi-Fi.

  • Aeroplan Family Sharing. Members are able to combine Aeroplan points with others in their household, for free, so they can redeem for travel sooner.

  • Earn points whenever you fly: Earn Aeroplan points with every Air Canada flight booked in cash on our website or app, now including Economy Basic fares.

  • All- New Aeroplan Credit Cards: The totally redesigned Aeroplan co-branded credit cards from TD, CIBC and American Express are the only ones that offer extensive Air Canada travel perks with eligible cards, like a free first checked bag and access to perks like priority check-in and preferred pricing on flight redemptions.
