I recently shopped at a retail store while on vacation. At the register, I was asked if I wanted to enroll in the store’s loyalty program. I politely declined explaining I was from out of town. That did not seem to faze the sales clerk who proceeded to explain all the benefits of the program. The fact that I was highly unlikely to ever shop there again did not seem to register with her as long as she could enroll me. Why would you want to enroll someone who doesn’t have the potential to become a loyal customer?
