Focus on Customer Journey at Scottish Tourism Summit

The inaugural Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Conference has been hailed a success.

More than 125 delegates attended the summit in Aberdeen which highlighted the importance of the customer experience and offer guidance to delegates on growing their businesses.

Elaine Booth, Aberdeen City and Shire tourism partnership manager, said: “The theme of ‘Improving the Customer Journey’ was chosen as we wanted to emphasise the importance of offering the customer an unparalleled consumer experience.

“From the initial idea to planning, booking, experiencing and sharing, we want guests to experience a seamless customer journey.

“The purpose of the various keynote speakers and interactive workshops was to help delegates, and their businesses, take the necessary steps to ensure they reach their full potential.”

The conference was opened by Dr Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, who highlighted that the North-east is leading the way in tourism in terms of the partnership working via the Area Tourism Partnership and the various Destination Management Organisations in the area.

Speakers included representatives from VisitScotland, RBS, European Golf Tour Tickets, Enterprise North East Trust, RGU, Thistle Aberdeen Altens, Meldrum Country House Hotel and Golf Club, VisitAberdeen and Hospitality Training.

It was just one highlight for the local tourism and hospitality sector last week. The inaugural Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards were held by Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association on Friday night.

They celebrated and recognised performance in the region’s hospitality and tourism sectors.

The Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Partnership comprises all tourism industry sectors – individual businesses, Destination Management Organisations, along with the relevant public sector agencies.
