WestJet Rolls Out Improved Rewards Program
WestJet is implementing significant changes to its Rewards program, marking the most significant improvement in its 15-year history. Effective April 30, 2025, the program will transition from a currency-based system to a points-based system, where each previous reward dollar will convert to 100 WestJet points, maintaining existing account values.
Beyond the structural change, WestJet is expanding how members can earn and redeem points. Members will now accumulate points not only on base fares but also on surcharges and ancillary purchases such as seat selection, checked baggage, and upgrades, with only government taxes and fees excluded. Additionally, points can be redeemed for various extras, including taxes, enhancing the program’s flexibility and value.
WestJet will also allow members to attain up to Platinum-level status without actual flight activity. Spending on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard will not contribute toward elite status qualification. The airline is also launching an eStore, enabling members to earn rewards through online shopping and redeem points for gift cards. New partnerships with TELUS and Skip will also allow members to earn and spend points outside of travel.
