Father’s Day Specials
With Father’s Day this Sunday, there will be some chain restaurants offering free food or massive discounts for the big day. Dads are always looking for discounts, so why would Father’s Day be any different? Benihana, and Bonefish, and Olive Garden will be giving away a $10 gift card with the purchase of a $50 gift card. Firehouse Subs (a Customer Expo keynote speaker) will be giving away a free medium sub when you buy a medium or large sub with chips and a drink. Pilot Flying J is giving away free coffee. At Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, any Dad who dines in will be provided with a $25 gift card to be used at a future date. These are just a few that we found. Feel free to Google “Father’s Day Food.” You’re bound to find something in your area that Dad would enjoy.

No More Cashiers
Yesterday, Reuters announced Microsoft is working on new technology which would eliminate cashiers and checkout lines from stores. The announcement comes as a response to popularity in Amazon’s new automated grocery shops. The technology would include things from cameras on shopping carts, to using one’s smartphone for scanning and purchasing. The U.S. market for automated checkouts is projected to be around $50 billion. The key for Microsoft is to find a way to make the software cheap to retailers, which they haven’t been able to do yet. The other factor is how competitive it will actually be with the increasingly popular Amazon option.
