Women Reluctant to Share Geolocation Data
 
Customer data drives loyalty, as it enables personalization. Generally, consumers have indicated a willingness to provide personal information, if it leads to a better customer experience. A new survey from The Manifest, however, indicates that women are much less likely to give up geolocation data. More than double the number of men (20 percent) are willing to share their location with all of the contacts in their phone, compared to only 9 percent of women who feel comfortable doing the same.
 
PayPal Offers Line of Credit to Workers Affected by Gov’t Shutdown
 
In an interesting development, PayPal, the online payment service, has offered a 500-dollar line of credit to workers who are not receiving wages due to the government shutdown. To apply for this line of credit, workers need to be able to establish that they are employees of the federal government. They also must have PayPal accounts that are in good standing.
 
OTT Movies Can’t Necessarily Play on the Big Screen
 
Nominees for the Academy Awards have been announced, and for the first time, a film that debuted through an OTT service (Netflix, in this case) has been nominated for Best Picture. Typically, the Best Picture nominees are played in theaters throughout the United States, but Roma, with its origins on Netflix, will only play at a small number of theaters. This marks an early phase in the changing ways consumers see movies.
