Crowne Plaza’s White Paper Highlights the Growth of Blended Travel and Shifts in Traveler Expectations

Crowne Plaza by IHG recently released its second white paper, “Leading the Charge in Blended Travel” which examines the evolving trend of blending business and leisure travel. The report reveals a significant increase in the number of travelers combining work and personal time, with 66% of U.S. and U.K. travelers now participating in this practice, up from 53% in 2022. The trend is particularly linked to remote work flexibility, as 56% of respondents cite the ability to travel while working as a key benefit of this shift. A global survey of more than 12,000 people across multiple countries, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Germany, and Japan, further highlights the growing appeal of blended travel, with 72% of respondents acknowledging its benefits in terms of flexibility and time management.

Crowne Plaza’s research identifies several emerging trends within the realm of blended travel. Travelers increasingly view their trips as opportunities for both personal and professional growth, focusing on skill development, self-improvement, and creative exploration. Wellness is another key aspect, with 35% of respondents utilizing their travels to establish healthier routines and reduce stress. Additionally, the concept of the New Personal Travel Economy highlights the demand for value-driven experiences that combine business and leisure, with travelers seeking to make the most of every moment and dollar spent. Crowne Plaza is responding by offering unique amenities and rewards through the IHG One Rewards program, enhancing the travel experience for both business and leisure guests. Finally, 37% of respondents say that spending quality time with friends and family is another benefit of combining work and leisure travel.
