The Direct Golf loyalty card, which launched on April 4, has gained fast success. According to a company release, more than 10,000 golfers have joined the free Direct Golf loyalty card program in the past two months.

What’s more, 1,000 more have signed up to be VIP members, which costs 10 pounds and carries more than 150 pounds worth of extra benefits.

The Direct Golf loyalty card is free and comes with three months complimentary golf insurance from Golf Care. The VIP version of the card–comes with extra benefits, including a six-month subscription to Today’s Golfer, the U.K.’s best-selling golf magazine (worth 26.40 pounds), a 50-pound Your Golf Travel voucher, and a free round of golf at any De Vere Venues resort.

The Direct Golf (DG) loyalty card enables shoppers to turn everyday shopping points into golf bargains. It is powered by rewards4golf.com, which awards points for purchases made with 1,000s of major brands - points which DG customers have been using to redeem online for the last couple of years, but can now be redeemed in any Direct Golf store.

The new Direct Golf loyalty card has been dubbed ‘golf's #1 loyalty card.’ The rewards4golf scheme was launched in 2008 and has more than 250,000 members who earn points while doing their everyday shopping with any of around 3,000 online retailers or on the High Street with a selection of outlets. Purchase spend is converted into points with every 250 worth £1. And now, with the introduction of the Direct Golf loyalty card, those points, accrued on a daily basis while shopping, can be spent in-store.

When the loyalty card launched in April, Steve Lewis, Direct Golf’s commercial manager, said the card would be welcomed by many golfers.

“The number of people who can benefit from this card is phenomenal, which could mean millions of pounds-worth of savings for U.K. golfers,” he said. “There are already more than a quarter-of-a-million users at rewards4golf, which powers our card and, if you add in 1 million Direct Golf customers, you can see why it’s been dubbed ‘golf's #1 loyalty card.’ Effectively, as a loyalty card holder, you can get something for nothing. Merely by registering your card you earn points by shopping at many of the stores you would be patronizing anyway. It’s a great scheme and we’re delighted to be able to reward our customers in this way.”

Yorkshire-based Direct Golf UK has 20 branches nationwide and was named ‘best mail order company’ for eight consecutive years in the Today’s Golfer reader awards. The company was founded by John Andrew, a Class AA, PGA professional, in 1991.

Direct Golf originated as a small retail store in Huddersfield, England, stocking products by golfing manufacturers at up to 70% off the recommended retail price. The brand quickly expanded, now taking the majority of business via their ecommerce site, and is one of Europe’s largest specialist golf retailers.
