Carnival Cruise Line has announced the launch of a new loyalty program, Carnival Rewards, set to go live in June 2026.
Replacing the existing Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) program, Carnival Rewards introduces a refreshed approach to recognizing and rewarding guest loyalty.
While the new program is being rolled out, guests will continue earning status under the current VIFP system, which will transition seamlessly into Carnival Rewards. The revamped initiative will feature a new name, expanded rewards, more ways to reach status levels, and a more versatile system for earning and redeeming benefits.
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said, “The evolution of our loyalty program to Carnival Rewards represents our commitment to creating more meaningful recognition for our valued guests. Our current VIFP program has served us well for many years, and while we’ve enjoyed truly extraordinary growth in our loyal customer base, it has become challenging to deliver the exceptional experience our Diamond and Platinum members deserve.”
At the heart of Carnival Rewards is a dual-earning structure that allows passengers to earn two types of benefits: Carnival Reward points and status-qualifying stars. Points can be redeemed for a variety of Carnival offerings such as specialty dining, spa treatments, and even future cruises. Stars, on the other hand, will determine a guest's loyalty tier, unlocking access to one of four status levels: Red, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.
Unlike the VIFP program, which is based solely on nights sailed, the new model will factor in spending on cruise fares and onboard purchases, giving guests more ways to advance in status. Additionally, using the Carnival Rewards Mastercard, co-branded with Barclays, will allow members to accumulate points and stars more rapidly through everyday purchases.
Carnival emphasized its commitment to honoring current loyalty statuses during this transition. All existing members will have their status carried over into the new program, with Diamond members retaining their status through 2032. Guests will be able to familiarize themselves with the updated rewards structure over a two-year adjustment period.
Cardmembers will also see their existing Fun Points converted to Carnival Rewards points when the program goes live.
