The Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) rolled out a new program last month to help save producers some money.

The Loyalty program offers producers savings at a variety of businesses and was mailed out with the annual report and all members are automatically enrolled.

“We’ve been talking out doing this for some time,” said Lori Loree, communications manager for the ABP.

“We decided to go ahead with it this year and try to help mitigate some of the cost to producers.”

The card is good for two years and there are currently four businesses on board.

The companies that have signed up are Unigroup, Dow Agroservices, ATB Financial and UFA.

Loree said they’ve gotten positive feedback so far.

“We’ve gotten some calls about it and they’ve all been positive,” she said.

“People seem to really like the insurance one especially. In this type of economy we want to help any way we can.”

The companies onboard paid a fee to be part of the program and Loree said the only costs to ABP have been some administrative and time costs plus the printing of the cards.

She said none of these costs

are passed along to the producers.

“We wanted to create something that would help producers,” she said. “We don’t want to add to any of their costs but see what we can do to make their lives easier in some way.”

To qualify for the program producers must have paid check-offs in the last two years and be a member of ABP.

There is no paperwork to fill out and the card was sent to all 26,000 members.

They plan to expand the program in the future and bring more businesses on board.
