A.A. Milne, the English author and playwright who was best known for creating Winnie-the-Pooh, was born on this day in 1882. After dabbling in both detective stories, humorous tales and nursery rhymes, Milne stumbled upon an inordinate amount of success with his Pooh character in the mid 1920s.
