Here’s a scary stat: There is somewhere between $902 billion and $1 trillion in total outstanding student loan debt, according to the American Student Association. Last year, the average American student graduated with about $29,000 in debt. Add interest, and the extreme difficulty finding a job, and it’s not hard to see how college grads are set up for years of living paycheck to paycheck.
