It appears that the merchants who let daily-deal coupon companies like Groupon offer discounts on their behalf may have had enough. According to The New York Times, the merchants are disillusioned by the legions of one-time customers who never return, and dozens of the coupon sites have folded.  The unhappy merchants are discovering a truth that any seasoned marketer could have told them: Loyalty can’t be bought.  It has to be earned.
