Marriott Bonvoy Survey Shows American Travel Is a Top New Year’s Resolution for 2026
A new Marriott Bonvoy survey shows travel is front and center for Americans heading into 2026. An overwhelming 91% plan to travel next year, with almost half (49%) expecting to travel more than they did in 2025. Reflecting a broader cultural shift, two-thirds of respondents say they are prioritizing experiences like travel over material purchases. The survey also reveals that travelers are seeking deeper connections, rest, and discovery. More than half want to spend more time with loved ones (55%), while 46% are eager to explore new dining experiences and immerse themselves in local culture (44%). Travel is also viewed as restorative, with 57% citing rest and recharging as its most meaningful benefit.
Marriott International Managing VP of Brands, Marketing, and Digital for U.S. and Canada, Mandy Gill, said, “Many Americans are heading into the new year wanting to travel more than they did this past year, fueled by a desire for deeper connection, new discoveries, and more meaningful experiences. Marriott Bonvoy is uniquely positioned to help bring those plans to life. With the chance to win 1 million points — enough to fund unforgettable getaways, bucket list adventures, or dozens of nights across our variety of brands — we’re giving travelers the opportunity to turn their travel dreams into reality across our global portfolio.”
The survey also underscores the importance of hotel loyalty programs, with many travelers relying on points and perks to make their plans achievable. Over half of Americans (52%) are enrolled in at least one hotel loyalty program, while 80% say the programs make it easier to accomplish their travel goals through free stays, upgrades, and other perks. To help turn travel intentions into action, Marriott Bonvoy is launching its New Year’s Eve Sweepstakes, awarding one million points each to five members. The prize gives winners flexibility to design trips that align with their personal goals, from bucket-list destinations to relaxing retreats.
