The latest news in the world of customer experience and customer loyalty.

Apple Doing all it can to Limit Phone Addiction
Not to sound preachy, but get off your phone. Seriously, get off your phone! The newfound addiction has been linked to increased traffic related deaths, depression, anxiety, and suicide. With what started as an incredible technological advancement aimed at increasing customer experience across the world, smartphones have now evolved into an ever expanding time suck. Apple has noticed this and is actively taking steps to limit phone addiction. When we say addiction, we mean it in every sense of the word. It is a real thing which has therapy and everything, no seriously! This morning, the Wall Street Journal elaborated on Apple’s new iOS12 and how they are attacking addiction head on. Users can set time limits on apps which will “lock them out,” after a certain amount of time. Of course, this will do absolutely nothing for users who are heavily addicted. As the WSJ put it, “it would be like putting a Scotch tape on a pack of cigarettes.” For users with some self-control, the new lock out features, combined with Apple’s new iPhone designs, should help people limit their screen time per day.

Amazon Go Continues Expansion
Originally just a concept in Seattle (Headquarters for the brand), Amazon Go quickly expanded its target market towards San Francisco. This morning, we learned Amazon will be placing another Go in New York City as well as possibly Chicago. Amazon Go stores are a “combination of cameras, artificial intelligence and other sensors which allow shoppers to grab items off shelves and immediately exit the store without having to wait in checkout lines.” The stores were first released in Seattle earlier this year and were met with widespread popularity from the city. The three locations are frequently packed with lines out the door and Amazon will continue expanding this concept to bigger markets until further notice. The new concept puts pressure on major grocery retailers across the country.
